Gibson L7CNED - 1950 NFS
Is this the rarest commercial production electric guitar in Australia? I don't know but it must be close. Only 26 of these were ever produced (only made between 1950 and 1955). This is the first year of production and only 4 were made that year. This is an incredibly beautiful guitar to both look at and to listen to (both acoustically and plugged in). I feel privileged to be allowed to take care of it. All original absolutely everything including the original case. Only a few scuff marks on the top.
The L7 is the same guitar as the L5 but without the extra binding and the gold fittings, solid carved maple back and sides, solid carved spruce top, 2 piece maple neck with mahogany strip.
The McCarty pickguards are rare enough on their own. A distinctive sound and not very loud, not that it matters since these guitars do not go anywhere and are only played at home. Just to sit and hold them is a privilege!
